Ana  Zurutuza



Ana Zurutuza 81, of the Bronx, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 with her family by her side. She was born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Jose & Juana Rodriguez in Guayama, Puerto Rico in 1935. She married the late Bernardino (Beny) Zurutuza in 1968 and they lived together in the Bronx until his passing in 2009.

Ana worked as a cashier for 23 years. She was a devoted member of Holy Cross Church for 49 years. She and her late husband started the church choir and the Good Friday Procession. She had also served as a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Cursillio “De Colores,” as well as the Sagrado Corazon. She visited the sick in their homes and hospitals on a daily basis and volunteered for many years at St. Vincent De Paul Nursing Home and for the Bronx Democratic Committee. Her free time was dedicated to her church, helping the community, and providing assistance. More recently, Ana was recognized and honored as a Woman of Distinction for her selfless services for the community by the New York State Senate. Ana was known for cooking pastelles, alcapurrias, arroz con gandules, flan and other delisious food, cooking for her family, events/fundraisers at her parish Holy Cross was one of Ana’s largest contributions.

Ana is survived by 4 children: William Negron and his wife Yolanda, of the Bronx; Edwin Negron, of the Bronx; Eileen Negron of Poughkeepsie; and Michael Zurutuza, of the Bronx. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Nadine Tuduri and her husband Martin, Eileen Ortiz, Evette Ortiz and Joshua Ortiz as well as 2 great-grandchildren Gianni and Valentina Tuduri.

Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Thomas C. Montera Inc., Funeral Home 1848 Westchester Ave Bronx, NY 10472 (718) 824-3700 www.monterafuneralhome.com. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday September 8, 2017 from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday September 9, 2017 at Holy Cross Church 600 Soundview Ave Bronx, NY 10473 (718) 893-5550. Burial to follow at Saint Raymond’s Cemetery.

At Ana’s request, attire should be vibrant colors. No black clothing please. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you contact or visit Holy Cross Church at the number listed above and offer a mass in her name.
